A few days ago, Luo Zhijun, Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, and Xu Nanping, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Political Consultative Conference, successively made important instructions on the "Suggestions on Accelerating Graphene Research and Industrialization" submitted by the Provincial Association for Science and Technology.
Graphene is a two-dimensional material composed of carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb shape. In 2004, physicists Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov of the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom successfully obtained graphene in their experiments. The two also shared the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics for "pioneering experiments in two-dimensional graphene materials". Graphene is the thinnest known material (only a single atomic layer thick), and has a very high specific surface area (2630 square meters per gram), super conductivity (mobility is 100 times that of silicon), Thermal conductivity (tens of times that of metals such as copper and aluminum), excellent light transmittance (97.4% light transmittance), mechanical strength (100 times that of steel) and flexibility (stretchable and foldable), these advantages make graphene It has very good application prospects in electronic devices, optoelectronic devices, sensors, touch screens, energy storage devices, composite materials and other fields.
Ni Zhenhua, a professor and doctoral supervisor of Southeast University and co-chairman of the Executive Committee of the Fourth Annual Meeting of Young Scientists in Jiangsu Province, proposed in his proposal that due to the huge market potential of graphene, there has been a worldwide upsurge in graphene research and development. At present, international big-name manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics, IBM, Dow Chemical, and General Motors are actively promoting graphene industrialization research. In China, universities and scientific research institutions such as Institute of Metals, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nankai University, Southeast University, Ningbo Institute of Materials, Chinese Academy of Sciences have applied for many patents in the field of graphene preparation and application. Universities and research institutes in Jiangsu Province have also made good progress in the research and industrial application of graphene. In terms of the industrial application of graphene, Jiangsu is at the forefront of the country and even the world. In July 2010, Taizhou established the first professional graphene new material company in China, which now has a large scale. In October 2011, Changzhou became the Jiangnan Graphene Research Institute, which is the first industrialization base based on graphene materials and applications in China. It has introduced many high-tech enterprises such as Changzhou Sixth Element. The Taizhou Municipal Government also approved the establishment of the first graphene research and testing platform in China to provide technical support for the formulation of graphene quality testing standards and the industrial application of graphene.
Ni Zhenhua put forward five suggestions on accelerating graphene research and industrialization in Jiangsu: first, guide the right direction of graphene research from the government level; second, speed up the industrialization process through policy support; third, start to formulate industry standards as soon as possible to gain the right to speak The fourth is to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between industries to promote the wide application of graphene; the fifth is to establish relevant industrial technology alliances to strengthen coordination and cooperation within the industry.
