      What is the most insulating material in the world? Generally speaking, the materials with the worst thermal conductivity (or thermal insulators) are so-called porous materials. Heat is transferred in the crystal in the form of phonons. Therefore, if the structure of the crystal is fairly regular, the phonons can easily travel far away.
