National standard defines graphene for the first time

Our platform is a national graphene research and testing platform. Since its establishment in 2010, we have attached great importance to the testing and standardization of graphene. Because we know that graphene standards play a very important role in graphene research, production, and trade.

We have started various standardization activities in 2011 and have a very detailed plan. First, we made enterprise standards and group standards for graphene. In 2013, we completed the development of the first graphene group standard. After more than a year of trial operation, the effect is not bad.

Subsequently, our country established a national standard for graphene, and handed over to our platform to draft and formulate the national standard for graphene terminology. Since the establishment of the national standard in 2014, we have held many meetings and invited people from all walks of life, including the business community, the scientific community, and those involved in investment and financing, to participate in the graphene industry. The standard makes great recommendations.

On the basis of soliciting opinions from various parties, we have completed the formulation of the draft national standard. Now the pre-review phase is over, and we have completed the revision of the draft based on the pre-review comments. In the middle of this month, the revised national standard will be formally submitted to the Standards Committee for final review. After the final review, the standard will be published soon.

The national standard for graphene terms is the first to fully define key terms such as graphene, graphene materials, graphene oxide, etc. from a systematic point of view. At the same time, we also define the common preparation methods and detection methods of graphene. I believe these are all It is a content that all sectors of society, both international and domestic, are very concerned about.

For example, there is a certain difference between graphene and graphene materials. Graphene, we define in the standard is a carbon ion monolayer, but graphene material, we define it as a carbon nanomaterial composed of graphene, in which the number of crystalline layers is less than 10. This definition distinguishes graphene materials well from graphite, and also from other different forms of carbon nanomaterials.

National standards allow all walks of life to reach consensus

National standards play a very important role. First of all, as an emerging material, graphene is no stranger to this term. But what exactly is graphene? Although these three words are very simple, different people have different meanings when they understand them from different angles. In the process of formulating standards, we found that whether it is a graphene production enterprise or a graphene application enterprise, whether it is upstream or downstream of the industry, the understanding of graphene is very different.

Under this circumstance, if we want to realize the development of real industrialization, we must reach a basic general consensus in all walks of life and all walks of life. Therefore, the formulation of national standards can tell you to a large extent what graphene we are concerned about.

Now we have a scientific definition of this thing from a rigorous point of view. With this definition, on the one hand, it can promote our production, scientific research, teaching, and circulation; on the other hand, I believe that it can eliminate some mixed phenomena in the market. For example, some people use graphite to confuse graphene.

In the sense of discussing the standard, we need to consider whether anyone is using this standard and who is using it. Obviously, we currently have a very urgent need, whether it is from the market, or from the scientific community and the industry, everyone needs a systematic graphene standard system.

I give an example. First, our defining criteria address the question of what is graphene. So how did graphene come from, and it may require a series of preparation standards. After it is prepared, what kind of properties does graphene have and how to test its properties involves the formulation of a series of performance standards and testing standards. Therefore, the entire graphene standard is a complete technical system.

After we have completely built this technical system, we will have evidence to follow no matter where we are in the market. For example, I am a producer, and I hope to have corresponding production standards; the downstream application side pays attention to the performance of graphene, and he also checks whether the product he buys is graphene based on the performance standards and testing standards we have formulated. How about it.

At the same time, we also consider that the graphene industry is likely to have a very important position in foreign trade in the future. In this trade process, a very critical point is to have a standard. Will our national standards be better than international standards? If so, it proves that our technical strength is very superior compared to international similar products, so that our products are also internationally competitive. These are the meanings of our formulation of graphene national standards.

The national standard of graphene is at the forefront of the world

At present, as new graphene materials have attracted the attention of all countries in the world, all countries, whether industrial or academia, have invested a lot of energy in research and development. At the same time, countries have also invested a lot of energy in the formulation of graphene standards. For example, ISO and ISC have relevant personnel engaged in this work. At the same time, the Graphene EU Membership Project is now working on standards. This is the situation abroad.

China is one of the many sponsors of the international graphene standard and an important participant. In China, there are also many social groups that are working on group standards for graphene, as well as corporate standards. In the graphene industry, several important standard categories such as international standards, national standards, industry standards, group standards, enterprise standards, and local standards have units participating and leading.

At present, our country is at the forefront of this standard, because the international community is also carrying out discussions in this area, but it has not been as fast as ours.
